Ryan Reynoldsis dropping hints about the future of theDeadpoolfranchise.

Asked if he was “thinking aboutDeadpool, the next” in an interview with Willie Geist forToday's Sunday Sitdown Liveseries shared on Sunday, April 19, the writer-star behind the foul-mouthed Marvel superherorevealed, “I have some stuff kind of written.”

But, he added, “I don't think I'm going to center him again. I think he's a supporting character, you know?”

In 2024'sDeadpool & WolverinecostarringHugh Jackman, Reynolds, 49, brought Deadpool into theMarvel Cinematic Universefor the first time, following 2016'sDeadpooland 2018's sequel. Although the character led those three films, it seems fans shouldn't expect a standalone fourth installment.

As Reynolds put it, Deadpool is “a guy that's great in a group.”

Deadpool & Wolverinebecame thehighest-grossing R-rated filmever at the box office. It was the last feature-length credit for Reynolds, who has among his upcoming acting projectsMayday(on Apple TV Sept. 4),Animal Friends(in theaters Jan. 22, 2027) and Amy Sherman-Palladino's adaptation ofEloise.

No future projects featuring Reynolds' Deadpool have been announced. Although rumors have swirled about his involvement in future Marvel movies, includingAvengers: Doomsday(in theaters Dec. 18), the star toldEntertainment Weeklylast September he hasn't “stepped foot on set.”

Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporterin December 2024, Reynolds said he doesn't think the character Deadpool should ever become a member of the X-Men or Avengers. “He always needs to stay an outsider,” he explained at the time.

“His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we're at the end of his journey,” he said.

In hisSunday Sitdown Live, Reynolds also discussed turning 50 later this year, his many business ventures,supportingwifeBlake Livelyand parenting theirfour kids.
