Baci the Bernese mountain dog

Meet Baci, our latest AOL Pet of the Week! This beautiful 6-year-old Bernese mountain dog belongs to AOL user Jennifer, and she's got a personality as big as her fluffy paws.

Baci’s name means “kisses” in Italian, which seems perfectly appropriate for a dog with such a sweet face. But this international beauty actually got her start in the Netherlands, where she was born before eventually making her way into Jennifer’s family.

At home, Baci is something of a couch potato. She’s perfectly content to lounge around and enjoy the comforts of indoor life. But take her outside for a walk, and suddenly she’s a different dog entirely!

Baci believes every interesting smell deserves a thorough investigation, which means walks can become a series of very important sniffing stops. Forget getting anywhere quickly – Baci has an entire neighborhood’s worth of fascinating scents to explore.

Her independent streak extends to her personality, too. Jennifer describes Baci as extremely smart but stubborn, a combination that means this clever girl probably knows exactly what she’s being asked to do. Whether she feels like cooperating is another matter entirely.

Bernese mountain dogs were originally bred as working dogs in the Swiss Alps, where they helped farmers herd cattle and pull carts. Today, they’re beloved for their affectionate personalities, impressive size and gorgeous tri colored coats. Baci certainly has that last part covered!

Baci and Forest the Bernese mountain dogs

And then there’s Forest, Baci's canine “brother.” The two share a home, although Jennifer says Baci mostly tolerates his presence. Judging by their adorable photos together, they've at least mastered the art of posing for a family portrait.

Between her leisurely lifestyle, enthusiastic sniffing adventures and delightfully stubborn personality, Baci is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best way to enjoy life is to slow down and smell absolutely everything. Literally everything.
