Just when fans thought they knew everything about Kim Kardashian ’s life, she casually dropped some lore about her 72-day marriage to former NBA player Kris Humphries in her new biography, Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future.

The book, written over five years by Jonathan Van Meter with exclusive intel from Kim and her famous family, published previously unknown details about her eventful life—including her and Kris’ short-lived marriage in 2011.

According to the Skims mogul, she “knew it before we were married in my soul” that Kris wasn’t “the one” for her. As for why she went through with the wedding anyway, she admitted, “I just thought, ‘Well, it’s cold feet.’ But your gut, your soul, is always right.”

She added, “And then I thought, ‘Well, they’re filming for a show, and if I bail now, they’re going to call me ‘the runaway bride’ and it will be an even bigger thing.’ But I should have just not gotten married.”

Kim’s mom, Kris Jenner , also provided some intel about her daughter’s love life at the time.

“I knew she wasn’t happy. I went to her during the rehearsal, before the wedding,” Kris said in the book. “We were in this beautiful house in Montecito, [California], and the windows were open and Robin Thicke was rehearsing some songs on the dance floor. And I remember listening to the song, and I said to her, ‘Listen … I can just … I feel like … you’re not making the right decision.’ And I said, ‘If you want to cancel the wedding, just get out of here and I’ll figure it out.’”

What’s more: one of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians producers, Farnaz Farjam, admitted that “Kim didn’t have the confidence to back out” of the marriage last-minute.

“In early seasons, Kim was this hopeless romantic,” Farnaz explained. “She would get shy; she could get vulnerable; she wore her emotions on her sleeve. She liked being sexy and having all that attention, but she wasn’t confident. I think she had to go through some hardships — recognizing that it’s not the end of the world — to build that up.”

In the end, Kim maintained that the marriage was one of “the biggest mistakes (and regrets) of her life”—especially since she paid for a majority of her Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring at the time.
